Save the Date! Our Annual Picnic will be July 18th, 2025 5PM-9PM
United Spinal Association of Pittsburgh is committed to advocating for the rights and opportunities of those with disabilities, with a focus on legislative and grassroots advocacy. Our mission is to define, expand, and promote local, state, and federal policies that impact our members. We strive to amplify our voice and influence, empower our members, and develop stronger relationships with other disability organizations, elected officials, and non-legislative policy makers to ensure that our advocacy efforts are heard, understood, and collectively acted upon.
NATIONAL EFFORTS
We support the advocacy and policy mission of United Spinal Association through participating in workgroups, monthly Advocacy Live meetings, Virtual Advocacy Days, and the annual Roll on Capitol Hill.
STATE EFFORTS
The four Pennsylvania chapters meet on a monthly basis to discuss state policies and accessibility issues that impact all wheelchair users. We organize and participate in an annual Roll on Harrisburg after careful consideration of policies that are of the utmost importance to our members.
Did you know that we have a local Advocacy working group that meets monthly to discuss important topics and bills of interest that affect individuals with disabilities in the Pittsburgh region and across Pennsylvania? Please email our advocacy coordinator, Rebecca MacTaggart, at advocacy@unitedspinalpgh.org with any questions of if you'd like to participate in the movement to shape policy and work toward a more inclusive and accessible future for all. All PA United Spinal members are welcome!
LOCAL EFFORTS
United Spinal Pittsburgh’s Advocacy Network meets monthly to strategically discuss our on-going efforts working towards accessibility and inclusion. Each year, we carefully choose our advocacy priorities by listening to the community in a variety of ways. This is also an opportunity for our advocates to share their experiences and their needs. We do our best to provide resources, support, and tools to promote self-advocacy.
