Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month
The United Spinal Association of Pittsburgh is primarily focused on recreational activities and opportunities, membership engagement and interaction, peer to peer support for newly injured individuals and their families along with local and statewide advocacy for the SCI (Spinal Cord Injury) and wheelchair community.
All are welcome to participate in our events as well as our peer support and advocacy efforts, including those with SCI and their friends, family, and caregivers.
About Us
The United Spinal Association is a non-profit organization that represents 5.5 million wheelchair users throughout the United States.
The Pittsburgh Chapter of the United Spinal Association was started in 2007 by a group of individuals who wanted to bring the mission of the United Spinal Association to Western Pennsylvania. What began as a few members showing up to the local spinal cord injury inpatient rehabilitation unit has now grown into a 12-member board of directors and exceeds 250 members.
While our history is rooted in serving the spinal cord injury and disorders (SCI/D) community, our mission has expanded to foster a more inclusive community with services for all wheelchair users and their family, friends, and caregivers.
Our chapter has three primary areas of focus: member engagement, peer support, and advocacy. While our peer support programs are primarily focused on serving individuals with SCI/D and spina bifida, our recreational activities and our local and statewide advocacy efforts seek to serve the broader disability community.
All are encouraged to become members and participate in our events, peer support, and advocacy efforts. Whether you walk or roll, have lifelong or new disability, or are the family, friend, or caregiver of an individual with a disability, we want you here.

A world where people with SCI/D and all wheelchair users can realize their full potential and live life to its fullest.
